The speakers were Mr J. Dean and Mr Richards, chairman and secretary, respectively, of the Pokeno Patriotic Committee. Mr Dean spoke in glowing terms of Trooper Hirst’s high qualities, and on behalf of those present handed him a cheque, wishing him good luck and a safe return in the near future. From the ladies’ committee Mrs Clendon presented Trooper Hirst with woollen comforts. Trooper Hirst, in a neat speech, thanked those present for their attendance and Hie gifts. “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” was sung. The supper committee had a very large crowd to attend to and it carried the work through with credit.
