R/1R S. D. RICE HONOURED GEHTi FIG AT E OF MERIT On Saturday evening at the Star Theatre supper room, Papakura, on the occasion of the annual re-union of the Papakura branch of the Franklin Returned Soldiers’ Association, a unique presentation was made to Mr S. 0. Rice, immediate past president of (lie association, in Hie naurc of a certificate of merit, one of the special honours given for outstanding service to the Association. In making the presentation the president of the association, Mr L. G. Logan, paid a glowing tribute to the splendid services given by Mr Rice to the association. He was glad to have the pleasure of handing the certificate to Mr Rice in Ids home town, and expressed the hope that he would long continue to take an active part in the Returned Soldiers’ Association atfairs. (Applause). Musical honours followed. In reply Mr Rice said he considered this certificate a compliment to the members ,iust as much as to himself. He said it was chaps like Frank Johnstone and their chairman. Frank Parker, who deserved the honour. They were quiet, but hard working chaps for the R.S.A. What he had done, said Mr Rice, was only possible through the combined help and cooperation of the members. In conclusion lie eulogised the services gi\en by the secretary. Mr E. G. Moncrief, and added that in accepting the certificate he fell it was an honour to the Franklin Association. (Applause).
