THE PAPAKURA BRANCH 0(J ,\IP ETITION A FTE LUX 00 N "A coiiipet.it ion afternoon,” was a feature of the monthly meeting of the Papakura Women's Institute held last week in the Methodist hall, the president, Mrs 11. 0. Baulf, presiding over a good attendance. A hearty welcome was extended to new members and visitors, including one from the Auckland centre and one who had belonged to an institute in Stafford, England. This lady was the first English Institute member to attend a Papakura branch meeting. The roll call, “What you like best about the person sitting next to you,” proved very popular, so much so that only one member paid the penny line for not answering. The president reported that the group meeting will lie held in October for which a good programme had been arranged, also that (lie annual birthday party would lie celebrated next month. The competition included a novelty, Unit of making the best job out ot live selected articles, the prize-winners being: Miss Keys i, Mrs Brown 2. A chewing gum competition for the members of the committee resulted in a win for Mrs Weenik. Ollier competitions were: Table of bowers. Mrs B. Cartwright 1. Mrs Nicol 2; article made from 12Mb. flour bag. Mrs Wright 1, Mrs XV, Elliott 2: saucer of flowers, Mrs Fitchett 1, Mrs Wright l.
