DA RY STOCK IN REQUEST GOOD QUALITY CATTLE VALUES FOR BEEF ADVANCE '*> STORE PIGS EASIER There was a rather buoyant tone in the cattle section at Alfred Buckland * and Sons’ regular stock sale at Pukekohe yesterday, prices for dairies and beef firming. Auctioneers’ reports are as follow: Dairy cattle: There was an extra large yarding of dairy cattle. Bidding was extra keen for all good quality young cows and choice (fuality heifers close to profit, and values showed an improvement on recent quotations. Other classes sold readily at late rates. Top price of 21 gns. was secured for a pedigree Jersey heifer sold on account of Mrs Renwiek, while an outstanding gradp heifer on behalf of Mr Ivan Dyer, realised £l9. Extra choice Jersey heifers, close lo profit, made from £IU 10s to £l9; good heifers, £lO to £l2; more backward, .£7 10s to £9 10s; small and backward, £5 to £7; best cows in milk and close to profit, £l2 to £ls 10s; good cows, £lO to £li 10s; more backward, £7 to £9 10s; aged, unsound and backward. £3 to £5 JOs. Fat, store and boner cattle: There was a good yarding of stoi;e aiid boner cattle, but prime beef was in shorty supply. Values for beef were higher and fully firm for boners and stores. Heavy prime fat steers made from £l3 12s 0d to £ls: light weights, £lO 7s (id to £lO 12s Gd: fat Jersey steers, £7 :10s to £8 15s; fat young cows and heifers. £8 5s to £9; lighter, £7 5s to £7 15s; heavy Jersey cows, £6 5s * lo £7: lighter, £5 10s to £G: heavy boners, £4 15s lo £5 ss; others, £3 5s to £4 ss: inferior and aged, £1 5s to £2 ss: good coloured store cows, .64 10s J o £5 Os: medium quality yearling heifers. £4 to £4 ss.

Pigs: A small yarding of fat pigs sold freely and prices were on a par with Westfield rates. Very few baconers were yarded'.
