ENJOYABLE CHURCH SOCIAL The centennial social in connection with the Cleveclon Presbyterian church was held -recently in the Public hall. The hall was decorated lor the occasion with greenery and bowls of autumn flowers on the stage. The Scottish Standard held a prominent place. There was a large attendance, including the Moderator of the South Auckland Presbytery, the Rev. Orange of Papatoetoe, the Rev. Madclock, Papakura, the Rev. Drake of Glevedon Anglican church, and many past members. Mrs Rattray of Otaliuhu , and Mrs T. McLennan of Papakura, delighted the audience with solos and Mrs McPherson and Mrs Silk sang duets. The Rev. K. L. Warren welcomed those present and read apologies from past ministers who were unable to attend. The gathering was brought to a close with the singing of the hymn, “O God of Bethel,” the Doxology and “Auld Lang Syne.” Presentation to Miss Beil At the Presbyterian centennial social a presentation of a sliver tea-service was made to Miss Helen Bell who is to be married shortly. When making the presentation the Rev. K. L. Warren expressed the good wishes of the church members to Helen for her future happiness and their gratitude to her for many years of service as church organist, Sunday school teacher and G.A. worker. He remarked how she would be missed from the district, she being such an able accornpariTste, hut Clevedon’s loss w'as some one else’s gain. Miss Bell suitably replied. A coincidence mentioned at the evening w r as that 45 years ago a similar presentation was made from the church 1o a Miss Helen Bell, aunt of the guest of the evening, on the occasion of her retiring from being organist and Sunday school teacher, to he married.
