Thieves Active in Tuakau District

TWO ROBBERIES IN A WEEK TYRES AND TOOLS TAKEN VALLES ESTIMATED AT £l5O Two robberies have been perpetrated in Tuakau during the past week when goods to the value of £l5O have been stolen. Smeed was ransacked and three kits of lools, the properly of the contractor, Mr 11. J. Woodbridge and valued at about £75 were removed. Access to the shed was gained by forcing the door. On Monday evening the garage owned by Mr W. A. Smeed was entered and tyres valued at £7l were stolen. Entrance was gained through the door of the portion of the building occupied by Mr J. Pirret. So far as was ascertained yesterday nothing else was removed, the thieves apparently going for the tyres which were locked together with a chain.

The burglary was discovered early yesterday morning when the manager, Mr L. Fulton, arrived at the garage to commence work. Detectives from Auckland were quickly on the scene and conducted extensive enquiries yesterday.
