Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union
THE WESTERN GROUP QUARTERLY MEETING PUKEKOHE EAST COMPLEMENTED The quarterly meeting of the Western Group of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Oddfellows’ hall on Thursday last, the president, Mrs Wm. Morgan, presiding over a good attendance, all branches except two being represented. Donations lo Ihe Waitemata housekeeping fund and Ihe “Kianga Moe” rest home were approved. Mrs Preece reported that four parcels had been received and distributed to the needy. A report on the Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society's show was received, the Women’s Divisions and Women's Institutes having combined in arranging a display of pioneer articles and a parade of old-time costumes. These features were much enjoyed judging by the crowds which gathered round the stall. The Pultekohe East branch was congratulated on being the winner in the shop window competition with a fine display of produce. Those other branches competing were commended upon the very fine effort produced. The play .competition to he held in June was discussed and five branches hope to compete. >■ Branches are busy making arrangements for home nursing classes which are to be under the supervision of Mrs Landon. The ladies of the Patumahoe branch very ably acted as hostesses and an enjoyable meeting concluded with a dainty afternoon' tea.
THE PUKEKAWA BRANCH FEBRUARY MEETING The February meeting af the Pukekawa branch of the W.D.F.U. was well attended. Mrs K. D. Orr presided. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr IT. Geraghtv and family, the late Mrs Geraghtv having been one of the branch’s oldest members. The secretary read letters received from Lady Alice Ferguson and Lord Biedisloe on receipt of complimentary copies of “Brave Days.” The branch is holding a show in the Pukekawa hall on March 13, when a good attendance is expected. Mrs K. Orr gave an account of a caravan trip to Wellington via the West Coast, returning via the East Coast and including a visit to the exhibition. The single bloom and gladioli competitions were both won by Miss Mason. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Turner and Miss Smeecl.
