Railway Employee Dies of Injuries
ACCIDENT THIS MORNING EN PUKEKOHE STATION YARDS DURING SHUNTING ODURATIONS ■MAN GRUSHIN) BETWEEN BUFF HRS Extensive injuries, which later proved fatal, were suffered by Mr Francis H. W. Byrne, 38, married, a porter employed at the Pukekohe railway station, during shunting operatidns in the station yards at about 9.15 this morning. Mr Byrne was engaged slninting Hie early morning train from Hamilton when lie was caught between buffers. A leg at the thigh was frac timed and badly crushed, and other injuries suffered. The injured man was attended by Dr. H. Stewart Douglas, and .later removed to the Auckland Hospital in a SI. John's ambulance where he died soon after admission. Mr Byrne resided at the railway setI lenient, Birch road, with his wife and five children. He was an ex-King Country Rugby footballer and a wellknown local Rugby referee. He came lo Pukekohe about is monlbs ago. Mrs Byrne and three of her children are visilimr Taumarunui.
