New Dental Clinic at Tuakau
OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY THIS YEAR INTIMATION TO COMMITTEE MINISTER ASKED TO ATTEND Advice that the new dental clinic at the Tuakau school would be officially opened before the end of the year, was received by the dental clinic committee at its quarterly meeting on Monday night. There were present: Mr W. G. Pyatt (in the chair), Mrs W. G. Graham, Mrs G. Bakalich, Mr 0. W. Howe, Mr A. D. Whitehead, Mr H. Coles, Mr J. Watson, Mr T. Malcolmson (secretary) Mr A. B. Fordyce (headmaster) and Miss McFarlane (the dental nurse). The chairman stated that it had been hoped to have the Hon. Peter Fraser, Minister of Education, open the new building; and representations had been made to the district member, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, to secure the Minister’s attendance. Advice had been received from Wellington some weeks ago that the Minister would be able to visit Tuakau when he came to Auckland to open - the St, Helier’s school; but the notice had been too short for the committee to arrange a suitable function at that time, he stated. It was hoped that the official ceremony would be carried out before the school closed for the year, the communication stated, but it was too early as yet to arrange a date. If this cannot be done, the committee expect it will be performed by Mr Lee Martin. The clinic, which was completed in September, has been in use most of this term. It is a handsome structure, and will fill a long-felt want in the district. The building cost some £3OO to erect.
It serves approximately 600 children, from the following schools: Tuakau, Onewhero, Pukekawa, Te Kohanga, Wairamarama, and Whangarata.
Accounts amounting to £32 were passed for payment.
