Lavish Decorations at the Tuakau Town Hall

R.S.A. BALL

FUNCTION BRILLIANT SUCCESS NEARLY 400 ATTEND The hanging gardens of Babylon were acclaimed by the scribes of old as being the seventh wonder of the world. Time has cast these wonders into the mists of the past; their glory, however, was regained at the Tuakau Town hall, which on Thursday evening had been decorated with a lavishness seldom seen before in the district. The occasion was the annual ball of the Tuakau branch of the Franklin Returned Soldiers’ Association.

Suspended from the ceiling were festoons of greenery, hanging shrubs and coloured lights. tn the centre of the hall gay streamers formed a perfect background for wide-winged hanging bluebirds which lent an atmosphere of charm. Taking pride of place on the orchestral dais and on the walls were large Union Jacks. Proceedings opened with the grand march, • and dancing continued to strains of music supplied by the band of the H.M.S. Achilles. In all, nearly 400 guests were present. During the evening Mr L. G. Logan thanked all who had assisted to make the function a success.

The triumph of the evening was the supper which must have been one of the most sumptuous ever set before the people of Tuakau. The tables were decorated with Iceland poppies and daffodils, while suspended from above were chains of artistically-made paper decorations. Messrs 0. W. Howe, J. E. Geraghty and W.
