“SOULS AT SEA”
GARY COOPER AT HIS BEST AT THE STRAND A glance hack at motion pictures for the last decade reveals the rather surprising fact that most ol' the big, epoch-setting films were stories of the sea. “Down to the Sea in Ships,” ‘‘The Sea Wolf,” “The Sea Beast,” “Captain Blood,” “Mutiny on the Bounty” and “Captains Courageous” are a few films which bear this out. Now comes another, as big and as epochal as any—the powerful, dramatic and beautifully filmed motion picture, Paramount’s “Souls at Sea,” which opens tomorrow at the Strand theatre, Pukekohe. Here is a motion picture, taken from an actual occurrence in history, so skilfully directed and acted and so masterfully produced and photographed that its place among the greit motion pictures of all time is assured and its dramatic, well-told story, rugged in its appeal and massive in its scope, transcends even what the skilful cast could do to make it a perfect entertainment.
At the Masonic hall, “Home on the Range,” starring Randolph Scott, will be presented.
