SUCCESSFUL CARD EVENING

On Saturday the Pukekohe East j brand! of the National Party held a j successful card party in the hall, many j visitors being present and an enjoy- J able evening spent. Bridge prizes j were won by Mrs Thomson and Mr J. i N. ; Ingram, while the “500” winners were Miss Perkins and Mr Dingle. A dainty supper was served by the Pukekohe East ladies and the funds of the branch were augmented as a result of the effort. Young Couple Honoured About 4b people gathered at “Brae Bank,” Pukekohe East, to do honour to Miss M. Robinson and Mr E. Derrick who were married recently. The afternoon was passed in playing cards and table games, all present having a pleasant time. Before afternoon tea was served, Mrs Holmes asked, 'Miss I Robinson and Mr Derrick to accept a wide range of beautiful and useful gifts, with the best wishes of all present. Mr DeTick suitably replied. All joined in /sfeng “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” Mr R. Adamson proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Holmes for placing her home at their disposal for the afternoon. On the same afternoon Mrs Burke on behalf of the Pukekohe East Basketball Club, presented Miss Robinson with beautiful pyrex dishes, and*wished her every happiness.

Successful Flower Show

The Pukekohe East Ladies’ Guild held its annual flower show recently. In spite of the lateness of the season a beautiful lot of flowers were on the tables and the show passed off quite successfully. The judge, Sir E. Allan (flowers) and Mesdames Appleby and Craig (cooking and needlework) gave every satisfaction. Before presenting the prizes the Rev. G. F. McKenzie thanked all who had assisted at the show. Following is the prize list: — Daffodils, long trumpet: Mrs W. Miller 1, Mrs G. Gaskell 2. Daffodils, short trumpet: Mrs R. Lowrie 1, Mrs S. A tack driving competition was won by Mrs Burke. As a result of the ladies’ efforts the church funds will benefit to the extent cl nearly £lO.

BUCKLAND NEWS PING PONG CLUB DANCE The final dance of the season arranged by the Buckland Ping Pong Club, took place in the Buckland hall on Saturday and was a great success. There was a good attendance, all having a jolly time. McGuire’s orchestra played popular music. Mr H. Jamieson carried out the duties of master of ceremonies very efficiently. The supper arrangements were all that could be desired.
