Annual Conference of District Fire Brigades.
THE AUCKLAND SECTION. SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION. NEXT GATHERING AT CAMBRIDGE. There was a representative attendance of delegates at the 36th annual conference of the Auckland section of the United District Fire Brigades’ Association held at Pukekohe on Saturday evening, the president, Secretary G. Bowie of Te .Aroha, presiding. The president in a review of past year’s activities stated that the number of brigades affiliated at the end of 1936 totalled 38, which was a decrease of two on the previous year, the Ellerslie brigade having been absorbed by the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Takapuna’s membership having also ceased. Brigades in the province which were outside the association were Henderson, Hikurangi, Howick, Kawakawa, Moerewa Freezing Works, Takapuna and Te Puke. Several of these would affiliate when their finances permitted.
The balance-sheet showed a credit of £69 9s Id. During the year £SO subsidy had been paid to the Thames brigade, the demonstrations having been held at Thames. The election of officers resulted: — President, Fireman R. P. Fletcher, Devonport; senior vice-president, De-puty-Supernitendent F. Wilton, Thames; junior vice-president, Superintendent B. F. Morris, Te Awamutu; treasurer, Secretary G. A. Osborn, Onehunga; secretary, Captain T. J. Watts, Newmarket; auditors, Messrs J. A. Gray, Green Lane, and P. H. Hollingsworth, Green Lane; trustees, Superintendent H. E. Folias, Devonport, and Fireman H. E. Moore, Mount Eden. An invitation from the Cambridge brigade to hold the demonstrations and conference in 1938 at Cambridge wss accepted.
