Primary Schools’ Athletic Sports.

THE ANNUAL FIXTURE. POINTS CUP TO PUKEKOHE. t WALfu PA WINS THE SHIELD. The .Franklin Primary Schools’ Athletic Association’s ninth annual sports meetirig was held at Bledisloe park, Pukekohe, on Thursday, before a large attendance and in beautiful.weather. Representative teams from eleven schools —-Bombay, Buckland, Harris--ville, Mauku, Patumahoe, Pukekohe, Pukekohe Jgast, Puni, Tuakau, Waiau Pa and* V^Jjagarata—met in 'friendly was of the keenest, and great interest was maintained throughout. The grand parade of teams presented an imposing spectacle and as each team passed the stand it received an ovation from the big crowd. i ' The Herbert Smith challenge cup for the school gaining the greatest number of points was won by Pukekohe and the schools’ athletic association’s shield for the runners-up went

to Waiau Pa, which school won the points’ cup last year. Pukekohe East v won the cup for the girls’ overhead ball event, while Pukekohe also w:on three cups for the girls’ and boys’ relay races and the boys’ ball-throwing event.s. The following points were gained, under an arranged scale of points: Pukekohe, 104; Waiau Pa, 76; Buckland, 47; Bombay, 44(1; Puni, 44; Pukekohe East, 38; Harrisville, 36; Whangarata, 32; Patumahoe, 27; Tuakau, 20; and Mauku, 12. i At the conclusion of the sports, the president, Mr F. McGrath, welcomed parents and friends, and .thanked all who had assisted to make the meeting such an unqualified success. Mr McGrath specially thanked the borough council, the Franklin power board and the Franklin Racing Club. He then called on the member for Franklin, Mr t A. C. A. Sexton, to present the tro.phies. ,

Mr Sexton .complimented the competitors on their keen rivalry, mentioning that each was not running for himself or herself, but for the honour of their particular school. That was a wonderful spirit. He congratulated the president and officials on the excellent manner in which the sports • were conducted. He suggested that next year events be arranged for committeemen and the teachers; such events he was sure would be appreciated by the boys and girls.
