Pukekohe Brigade Wins the Howden Shield.

ANNUAL DEMONSTRATION. MARGIN OF TWO POINTS. /TAUMARUNUI RUNNER-UP. The South Auckland Fire Brigade’s annual demonstration took place at Bledisloe park, Pukekohe, on Easter Saturday in showery weather. Ten brigades Pukekohe, Taumarunui, Matamata, Te Aroha, Waihi, Te Kuiti, Thames, Otorohanga, Te Awamutu and Cambridge—took part. Competition was keen and close contests were a feature of the demonstration. I

The Howden shield for aggregate points in the three events was won for the -first time by Pukekohe brigade, which was represented by Secretary R. Craig, Firemen E. Harris, T. Wells and R. Johnstone, with 27£ points. Taumarunui with 25£ points was the runner-up.

The Hill-Maloney-Peterson shield, competed for by the brigades in the Th&mes-Waihi-Cambridge area, was won by Matamata with 203 points with Waihi runner-up half a point behind. Results are as follow:

Two-men hose and standpipe event. —Pukekohe, 375, 1; Taumarunui, 37 2-ss, 2; Otorohanga, 445, 3.

Three-men disabled hose event Pukekohe, 47 4-ss, 1; Te Aroha, 535, 2; Matamata, 55 4-ss, 3. Four-men hose and standpipe event. —Waihi, 44 2-ss, 1; Taumarunui, 475, 2 : Matamata, 47 l-ss, 3.

Demonstration officials were: Starter, Fireman Hague, Hamilton: marshall, Foreman F. Thompson, Cambridge; judges, ex-Superintendent E. Gilberd, Onehunga, and Mr J. Malcolmson, Pukekohe East; assistant judge, Foreman James, Whangarei; referee, ex-Superintendent A. Garrett, Thames; timekeepers, Deputy-Super-intendent F. Wilton, Thames, Foreman J. Williams, Onehunga, and Fireman W. Lomas, Thames; clerk of scales, Foreman G. Narbey, Pukekohe. Assisting officials were: Secretary C. Osborne, Onehunga, Superintendent Alexander, Thames, and Mr A. Mahoney, Pukekohe East. Trophies won during the day were presented at a social evening held subseqently in the fire station by the president of the association, Fireman R. P. Fletcher of Devonport.
