Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union:

PATUMAHOE BRANCH.

MONTHLY MEETING.

“BRING AND BUY” HELD. A meeting of the Patumahoe branch of the women’s division, Farmers’ Union, was held last week, the president, Mrs Woolsey, presiding. After the creed had been recited and routine business was completed, Mrs Hill moved that the hall committee be asked to improve access to and from the stage, the steep flight of steps being considered dangerous. This was seconded and carried unanimously. Four new members were enrolled.

In the absence of Mrs R. C. Clark, Mr A. Woolsey, president of the Mauku Farmers’ Union, opened a “bring and buy,” the effort being in aid of branch funds. Mr Woolsey congratulated members on such a fine display and wished the branch every success in its efforts.

The following awards were made: —- Plain white scones, Mrs Hill; plain brown scones, Mrs A. Woolsey; pikelets, Mrs A. Woolsey; jam roll, Mrs Bowman; jam sponge sandwich, Mrs Dunn; shortbread, Mrs Williams; home-made jelly, Mrs Bowman; naildriving, Miss Bottomley; thrift article, Mrs Williams; plain sewing, Mrs Pilcher; fancy needlework, Mrs Worthy; plain knitting, Mrs Worthy; fancy knitting, Mrs L. Needham; posy of flowers, Mrs McMillan; buttonhole, Mrs Worthy; spray, Mrs Hill; best bloom, Mrs Woolsey. A competition for a cushion was won by Mrs Hill. Hostesses were Mrs Irons, Misses Molly Moore, M. Irons, and Phyllis Crispe. HARRISVILLE JUNIOR BRANCH. The Harrisville junior branch of the women’s division was formed at a meeting held at the residence of Mrs G. Arrowsmith on Tuesday evening.

Officers elected were: President, Miss S. Arrowsmith; vice-presidents, Misses A. Donaldson and J. secretary, Miss M. Vaughan; committee, Misses D. Lowry, G. Faulkner and B. Holland.

The roll call was “my favourite flower and why.” A ping pong competition was won by Miss B. Bowman. A good number of members was enrolled. It was decided to hold meet-

ings on the third Friday in each montn at Mrs Gilmour’s residence.

WHANGARATA BRANCH. The Whangarata branch of the women’s division held its monthly meeting on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Smeed presided over a good attendance and welcomed one new member. .A competition for a vase of flowers was won by Mrs Williamson, with AUs J. Fulton second. Another competition was won by Mrs Ward. Mrs Ryan gave a demonstration on the making of puff pastry. Arrangements were made for a “bring and buy.” The hostesses were Mrs M. Ewing and Miss A. Kearney.

THE POKENO BRANCH. The Pokeno branch of the women’s division of the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting in the Pokeno Valley hall on Friday afternoon. There was a good attendance of members. The president, Airs J. Dean, welcomed two members transferred from Netherton branch. A “bring and buy” stall to raise funds for the flower show to be held on , November 27, was well patronised. The points competition was won by Mrs G. Leatham. A competition, guessing the names of cakes, was won by Miss S. Dean. A competition for the Druleigh prize was won by Miss C. Dean and one for the “best bloom grown in your own garden” by Airs Munro. Airs D. Gulland and Airs G. Leatham, were hostesses for the afternoon.
