Old Boys’ Football Club. The annual meeting of the Pukekohe Old Boys’ Rugby Football Club will be held in the A. and P. Society’s office on Tuesday next at 8 o’clock. The Approaching Session. In view of the approaching session of Parliament, Mr A. G. A. Sexton, M.P., for Franklin, will be glad to meet any of his constituents who desire to confer with him, at the vacant shop at the corner of King and Edinburgh streets, Pukekohe, to-morrow. Maori Charged With Assault. At a sitting of the Pukekohe Police Court yesterday before Messrs F .Perkins and J. B. Sim, J.P.’s, a Maor:, Geo. Walker, charged with assaulting Lala Buya, a Hindu, in the bar of the Pukekohe hotel on Saturday last, pleaded guilty. He was convicted and fined 10s and ordered to pay 8s witness expenses. A prohibition order \yas also issued. Laziness in Speech. “It is only laziness that makes us continue to attach the" same likeness every time we compare things. ‘Slow as a snail,’ ‘quick as lightning,’ and ‘happy as a sand-hoy’ mean nothing at all. The Americans are wiser. Their similes are active. ‘Busy as a tick on a turtle’ is a good deal more vigorous than ‘busy as a bee.’ ‘Thick as the dust on a circulating library’s non-fiction;’ ‘Gold as an Eskimo’s nose.’ That’s the way to use similes.
