The following teams have been chosen to represent Waikare in Rugby football matches against Mangatawhiri, the A team to play at Mercer and the B team at Rangiriri: — A team: Adams, T. Reed, R. The management committee of the Pukekohe Rugby Sub-union met on Monday evening, the president, Mr C. H. Jemison, presiding. The following team managers were appointed for Saturday: Senior A, Mr H. Pleydell; senior B, Mr A. J. Patterson; junior A, Mr Stone; 'junior B, Mr N. Sandin.
Mr .T. Lewis was appointed manager of the team to travel to Helensville on June 3.,
Rules governing the union’s insurance scheme for players were discussed at length and finalised. Provision is made for the payment of £1 a week for seniors and 10s per week for juniors, up to eight weeks. Claims will not be entertained where players injured in a game recover and take the field again within eight days of the date of the injury.
.In connection with the third grade competition, the Patumahoe delegates explained that there was some misunderstanding regarding the date of commencing the competition, and had Patumahoe club known of the union’s intention in time the club would have fielded a team, and maintained its unbroken record of fielding teams since the inception of the union. The committee decided to accept the explanation. and to play the game Pukekohe thirds v. Patumahoe thirds (to have been played on May 4) on Saturday, May 25.
It was decided to allocate a Saturday to the secondary and primary schools’ unions. The president was asked to negotiate with the officials of these unions and arrange a suitable date. The secretary was asked to make arrangements for the transport of teams on Saturday. LECTURE ON NEW RULES. The South Auckland Rugby Referees’ Association has received advice that Mr Dan McKenzie of Wellington, chairman of the executive of the New Zealand Referees’ Association, will give a talk over the air from station 2YA Wellington, at 7.35 to-morrow night, on the new rules of Rugby. The association asks that in the interests of the game, all referees and players in South Auckland, listen in to Mr McKenzie to-morrow night.
