NOTES FROM PAERATA. •' SOCIAL CLUB’S AFFAIRS. The annual meeting of the Paerata Social Club was held in the Paerata hall on Monday last, the president, Mr W. Young, presiding over a fair attendance.

The report on the finances was presented and showed the club to be in a very satisfactory position with a credit balance of £l3 12s. The club had worked on a very successful basis of co-operation with the Paerata branch of the women’s division of the Farmers’ Union. It was decided lo continue the same arrangement for Ihe coming year. The next function is to be a fancy dress social on Saturday, June, 22. The resignation of the secretary. Mr G. Butcher, was received with re • gret. Mr Butcher was presented with a crystal salad bowl in appreciation of his long association with the club.

The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr W. Young; vice-presi-dents, Mr W. Johnson and Mr J. Mitchell: secretary and treasurer, Miss B. Bowman: committee, Mesdames B. Jamieson, R. C. Clark, W. Young, Miss I. Bethel!, Miss B. Jamieson, Messrs R. Bennett and J. Jamieson. POKENO NOTES. At a meeting of the Pokeno Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild held in the Manse last week, Mrs Jackson was elected president, Mrs J. Pendergrast as vice-president, and Mrs Wilson as secretary. Business in connection with the church was discussed, and it was decided to hold a “bring and buy” function in June. Mrs Jackson entertained the ladies to afternoon tea. P.W.M.U. Meet. ’ The .P.W.M.U. held its monthly meeting in the manse on Wednesday, when there was a good attendance. The subject for the day w T as ■ The, New Hebrides.” Afternoon tea was served by the Pokeno members. Presentation Made. At the conclusion of the Pokeno Oddfellows’ lodge meeting last week, the noble grand. Mr R. Dean made a presentation to Mr and Mrs R. 0 Leary, in view of their recent marriage. Mr O’Leary suitably replied. After supper was served the evening was spent in playing five hundred. Obituary. The death has occurred at Tauranga of a very old Pokeno resident, Mrs Frances Brown, widow of the late Mr Thomas Henry Brown. She was born at Truno, Cornwall, and with her husband name to New Zealand about 50 vears ago. They farmed at Pokeno for many years. After her husband’s death some years ago, MrBrown went to Tauranga to reside. She is survived by three sons and one daughter. The interment took place at Pokeno on Wednesday. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by old friends. Personal. Miss Curie of Pokeno, is visiting her sister in Auckland. Mr and Mrs Short, who have been spending their annual holidays in Auckland, have returned home. Mrs Pugh has returned home from Hastings. She was accompanied by her father, who intends staying in the district for some time.

HARRISVII-LE NEWS. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. A delightful evening was given recently by Mr and Mrs .T. P. Hansen, Harrisville, to celebrate the coming-of-age of their second daughter, Laura. There were 00 guests from all parts of the district, including Auckland. The of honour received many beautiful gifts. Following dancing, supper was served, and Miss Hansen was called on, amid cheers and the singing of “For Fhe’s a .Tolly Good Fellow.” to cut the cake. Dancing was resumed, and items were contributed by Messrs W. Bright and C. Walker, and fancy dancing by Miss Lily Trotter of Auckland. The evening was brought to a close with community singing and the National Anthem. A Monte Carlo was won by Mr Lawrence and Miss Murray. and a novelty waltz by Mr biggins and Miss Reubc.
