Fourteen Years of Faithful Service.

TO PUKEKOHE BOROUGH. MR ROUTLY EULOGISED. COUNCIL’S VOTE OF APPRECIATION “After fourteen years’ of faithful service to Pukekohe borough, Mr Routly's services as Mayor are no longer required by a majority of the electors of this borough,” said Or. G. T. Parvin at Wednesday's meeting ol the borough council, when moving “that the council place on record its high sense of appreciation of the valuable services rendered the ratepayers by Mr Routly. during his 14 years in office as Mayor.”

Continuing Cr. Parvin said that Mr Routly had made a valuable contribution (o the progress of Hie borough. In his short review of the works undertaken. Mr Routly had omitted quite a few. These included the bitumcnising of many miles of roads which had resulted in a substantial reduction in maintenance costs —approximately 75 per cent: wonderful improvements at the public cemetery, the erection of a grandstand at Bledisloe park. Ihe erection of an up-to-date fire station (for which Mr Routly had given his services as architect gratuitously and had thereby saved the ratepayers hundreds of pounds). The ratepayers generally, he added, appreciated Mr Routly’s services. He (the speaker) had been associated with Mr Routly for 12 years at the council table, and he had always found him a man of outstanding ability as an administrator. During his 14 years of office he had made many associations round the council table. Although at times there were differences of opinion, he felt that Mr Routly left behind him many plasant recollections.

The motion was seconded by the Mayor (Mr C. K. Lawrie). Cr. F. J. Morrow said he had also been associated with Mr Routly for some time. At all times Mr Routly had given of his best to the ratepayers of the borough. The motion was carried unanimously.

The council, on the motion of Crs. Parvin and Morrow, placed on record its appreciation of the services rendered by Mr H. Curd during his four years in office. Councillors referred to Mr Curd as a very able councillor.
