THE PUKEKOHE BRANCH.

AN INTERESTING MEETING,

One of the most interesting and instructive meetings ever held by the Pukekohe Women's Institute took place on Monday evening, the dent, Mrs J. H. Wyatt, presiding over 80 members. Six new members were enrolled.

The president and the secretary» (Mrs C. G. Revell) were appointed ' delegates to represent the branch at the October conference at Auckland.

Mrs Wyatt was nominated for a seat on the executive committee of the Auckland Federation. Mesdames V. L. Harvey, M. C. Lawson and E. F. Snell were appointed a committee to visit sick members of the institute.

It was decided that the members undertake some beautifying ' work in the town. The general committee was asked to make inquiries and

arrangements. The business portion of the meeting having been completed, a most interesting lecture was given by Mr R, C. Clark, M.A., Principal of Wesley College, on Education and- the work of the W.E.A. Mr Clark was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Older, of Onewhero, then demonstrated on the carding and spinning of wool and Mrs Wyatt gave a demonstration showing what practical use can be made of wool from the fleece. The members were so enthusiastic at the display of useful articles exhibited that 17 fleeces were ordered on the spot.

Mrs Lawson exhibited a. beautiful little rug made from waste pieces of tweed and old silk stockings.

Two items by members of the musical circle were keenly appreciated. A delicious supper was served oy the hostesses, Mesdames Anderson, Armstrong, Osborne and Stewart. During Monday afternoon, a glove making demonstration was given to the arts and crafts circle by Miss Lewis, a voluntary organiser from Auckland, who also attended the evening meeting of the institute.

OFFICERS APPOINTED

A preliminary meeting of ladies held in the Buckland bowling pavilipn on August 3, with the object of forming a branch of the Women's Institute, y*

In the absence of the official organiser, Mrs J. H. Wyatt, of Pukekohe, addressed a gathering of about forty ladies and spoke about the ideals and the methods of working the institute.

The ladies were all very enthusias-

tic and formed a committee of the'folio wing ' members.:-—President, ' Mi's Lewis; secretary', Mrs 'Hewitt; urer, Miss Piggott; cbmmittee, Mesdames Butcher, Shaw, Stringer, Steenson, Walker, Harper. Seeley, Danes and Graham. :
