Common Colds Prevalent. The common cold is very prevalent in P'apakura just at present. Court Official Visits Papakura. The inspector of court houses paid a visit to Papakura last week. Unsettled Weather. Unsettled weather was experienced in Papakura during the week-end, fairly heavy showers falling- occasionally on Sunday. Proposed Sports Grounds.

A start has heen made at the cemetery reserve sports ground by men on No. 5 scheme, where the ground is being prepared for draining.

Minister op Home Sessionary. It is understood that when a vote of a meeting was taken recently to consider whether a certain denomination should invite a minister or a home missionary, the voting was: 20 for a minister and 19 for a home missionary. Church Surroundings a Credit. There never was a time in the history of Papakura when the grounds of the various churches —Anglican, Methj odist, Roman Catholic and Presbyterian I —were looked after so well. They are all cared for in a manner that reflects credit on all the authorities concerned. I Road Repairs Required. i Many residents living in Valley road district, who have to walk into Papakura, are wondering whether anything can he done to make the road better i for pedestrian traffic. At the present time there is no footpath, and the road has a large quantity of big stones on it and the grader aggravates the position. A coating of fine metal waste would improve the road considj erably. Visit : ng League Footballers. The English League football team passed through Papakura on Sunday moruing al 10 o'clock, en route to | Rotorua. One car, containing Mr \. ', Ellaby, the crack wing three-quarter, pulled up to allow the international to speak to Mr Trevor Hall, who was an old club mate of his in England. Trevor Hall, who spent a couple of seasons in the Old Country playing League, is now resident in Papakura and has been picked (o play in the. Auckland team which plays Hie Englishmen next Saturday.

Shanks' Pony Safer. i A resident, who lives jus! beyond I the town district boundary and uses his cycle to and from work, was seen ; on Saturday by a Times reporter in : company with his grown-up daughter, j in Broadway, walking up to the rail- : way bridge. Having reached the j bridge the daughter was seen to fix i herself somehow on the bike: then | Fa liter made a supreme effort with i his right foot on the pedal and after i travelling about 12 inches on the level portion of the bridge in a semi-circle, Father, daughter and the bike lay moi ion less on the road. The daughter was lull of laughter and no bruises. Not to be denied, Ihe persevering gentleman gave it another go. but with a v similar result—bike, father and daughter all in a heap on the road, both smiling but satisfied, apparently, that pillion riding on an ordinary bicycle for two adults requires a.fair amounl of skill and practice. Father and daughter were afterwards seen walking home, none the worse for their experience.
