PERSONAL.

Mr G. D. Lawrie left Pukekohe joji Saturday for Matapouri, near Hikurangi, where he has received an appointment as sole teacher of the public school. Mr Lawrie's services will be misseddn local Rugby circles, especially by Ihe Old Boys' football team, of which he was captain.

Mr T. Gossey, a member of the Drury senior Rugby team had the misfortune to sever Ihe second finger of his right hand at the first joint recently. He was adjusting the fan belt of a lorry engine when the finger was drawn into the fan. At the time the engine was running but the fan was not operating. A minor adjustment caused it to work, and Mr Cossey now admits I hat he committed an error of judgment in not switching off the engine. The injured finger is mending rapidly, but it will be some time yet before he is able to fake his place in the Drury team.

Mr F. P. Rowe, a member of the staff of the Pukekohe branch of the Farmers Trading Company has been promoted to the position of manager of the company's branch at Otorohanga, and he will leave on Wednesday next to take up his new duties. Mr Rowe is a well-known resident of Pukekohe of many years' standing. He was a member of Mr William Roulston's staff for several years prior to the Trading company acquiring the business. When j the Trading Company took control, Mr Rowe was appointed manager of the j hardware department, and. several times during Mr H. J. Sumner's ab- \ sence he has filled the position of.act- J ing manager. Mr Rowe was asso- . ciated with a number of local organ- ; isations, and was also a prominent churchworker. His many friends join in congratulating him on his weU. earned promotion.
