Major Richard McCaig, recently returned from Delhi, gave an interesting address on the life and customs of the people of India, with reference to their past and present problems. . , , The celebration on the occasion of the marriage of Miss Felicity Wavell, daughter of Field-Marshal Wavell, to Captain Peter Maitland Langmore, of the Royal Artillery, were described in a short talk by Mrs McCaig. Guests welcomed by Mrs Richard Hudson included Mrs Piper (England)', Miss A, B. Wright (Scotland), Major R. and Mrs McCaig (Newbury, Eng'land),‘'Mrs G. S. Pereii (Palmerston North). OTAGO HOME ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION The lecture room in Homo Science Building was packed to capacity on Monday night, when Dr, Douglas gave a talk on safeguards to health to members of Otago Home Economics Association. The speaker asked his audience to consider good health not just as absence of disease, but as the capacity for full living, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Dr Douglas expressed the opinion that in a primary-producing country it should be no insuperable task to build up an optimum standard of living, based on good housing, good industrial conditions, with adequate food and recreation. Much research work has been done, and the resultant findings made available to the peoplo. The higher the standard of education of a people, concluded Dr Douglas, the higher is the standard of living—the two are bound up together, for increased kuow-

ledge means an increased capacity to achieve the desirable conditions for ensuring good health.
