Express ’ that Britain told New Zealand that if the,continued increase in- gift food parcels overloads transport and delivery in Britain, the service may be suspended. It is stated at New Zealand House .that mo such intimation; has been, received there nor passed on to New Zealand. The British Post Office m a considered statement,”' said, We are doing nothing whatever to restrict or limit gift parcels from any dominion. We have no desire or intention to put any limit on food parcels, and-the British; Post Office can handle all that ' the dominions can send.” . A Ministry of Food official commented, “We are mystified by the • statement. It certainly did not come from us.” [A Press Association message received from Wellington On July 11 quoted the Postmaster-General, ..Mr Hackett. as saying that the Bntisn authorities were averse to any appreciable increase in volume of personally addressed food parcels to the United Kingdom. Mr Hackett added that ■ the disposal of the parcels increased transport delivery, difficulties in Britain. This was benefiting a few at the expense of many., Mr Hackett said "the British authorities had in the past made suggestions that if the volume of parcels increased to any extent, the use of the parcel' prist sert - vice might • have to be suspended.]
