ENGLISH TOUR DECLINED BY BOWLING COUNCIL

Shipping, food rationing, and accommodation problems were discussed at tlic annual meeting of the council of the New' Zealand Bowling Association yesterday afternoon, and it was regretfully decided that the invitation of the International Bowling Board to send a team of New Zealand bowlers to England next year should be declined, 'ihe council did not consider that the time was yet ripe for the resumption of international bowling tours on a largo scale, but it was decided to review the position at the next annual meeting, and at the same time to consider the advisability of inaugurating a system of overseas visits in rotation. The Council approved of the decision of the International Bowling Board that no team of bowlers proceeding overseas should be recognised unless it is sanctioned by the national association to which its members were affiliated. As a direct result of the approval expressed, it is possible that the team of Canadian bowlers expected in the coming season may not now visit New Zealand and Australia. The British Columbia Law\n Bowlers’ Association, which had arranged the tour, has not received the approval of the Canadian parent body. It was decided yesterday, therefore, that .the British Columbia Association be advised of the attitude of the International Bonding Board, but that, if arrangements for the tour have been completed, the party will bo welcome in New Zealand, in spite of transport and accommodation difficulties. PERMANENT SECRETARY. A permanent recording secretary will

be appointed to the association,, it was resolved by the council. The executive was instructed to draw up a schedule of duties and call applications, to close in .January, the appointee to take up duty in June, 1948._ The minimum salary was set at £l5O, plus expenses. A permanent secretariat will.be established in the centre where the successful applicant lives It was resolved to send a letter of appreciation to Mr Andrew Fletcher, of Wellington, who has contributed £IOO towards green research. The next annual meeting, it was resolved, will be held at Auckland The application of the Manawatu Centre for the 1948 North Island tournament, to be held at Palmerston North, was approved. A second application from the Taranaki Centra' with withdrawn in favour of Manawatu.
