SEACLIFF REMAINS FIRM
DEVELOPMENTS AWAITED The resumption of relations between the Public Service Commission and the. New Zealand Public Service Association is considered locally to offer some prospect of a settlement of the dispute as a result of which the staffs of the Seacliff and other mental hospitals are at present declining overtime work. The feeling among public servants has been that the attitude of the commission in refusing recognition of the association was merely aggravating the position by preventing negotiations for a settlement. Inquiries yesterday indicated that the views of the public servants involved in the dispute remain un- ; changed, and that their intention is to maintain their . present course until further advice is received from Wellington, leaving negotiations in the hands of the executive in Wellington. It appears to be generally believed that, with the revision in the attitude of the commissioners, no time will be lost in resuming discussions regarding the dispute, and future developments are being awaited with interest.
