PUBLIC SERVICE
RIFT WITH COMMISSION SEALED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 4. The relationships between the Public Service Commission and the New Zealand Public Service Association will be restored as from to-morrow. The commission withdrew recognition of the association on February 25, when the association gave its full support to the refusal of mental hospital staffs to work overtime. The acting president of the association; Mr L. G, Anderson, said tonight that advice had been received from the Public Service Commission that it was prepared to resume relations with the association as from tomorrow. Mr Anderson said the association had accepted this, Mr Anderson’s announcement followed a meeting of executive officers to-night. Earlier in the day a meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, had been held. No further official statement is made, but it is understood that the matter in dispute concerning overtime payments in mental hospitals has not yet been settled. The position has been sufficiently clarified, however, for the commission to receive further representations from the association.
