In a statement to-day the Prime Minister unimnued that the Government had decided yesterday that a gift of £10,000,000 sterling (Neiv Zealand currency £12,500,000) would he made to the United Kingdom Government from our sterling balances in London. This gift from the Government and people of New Zealand to the Government and people of the United Kingdom is in recognition of the magnificent and unprecedented effort of the United Kingdom and her people in maintaining freedom, and making possible its expansion in the years to come.—Our Wellington representative. LONDON, March 4.—The evening newspapers splash the announcementpf Australia’s gift of £25,000,000 to Britain. - The ‘ Evening Standard ’ has a fivecolumn front page banner headline with a sub-heading ‘ Help from the Empire in Britain’s Economic Crisis.’ The ‘ Evening News ’ features the announcement in a double-column front page panel. NO RACE TRAINS. No race trains are to be run by the Railway Department to the Trentham meeting on Saturday because’the coal position 'is regarded as precarious.
