SUBSTANTIAL LOSS

HOME AND CONTENTS BURNED A substantial loss wasi suffered on Monday night by Mr William Gill, one of the oldest residents of Lower Portobello, when his home was destroyed bv fire. It was after Mr Gill that “'Gill’s Corner,” a popular resort, was named. The house and its contents, which included all of his personal belongings and a sum of money, were completely destroyed. _ Mr Gill, who has lived aLne since the death of his wife, went to visit a resident living nearby, and when he returned, the house was in flames. There was little chance of saving it as the tide was out/and, little water was available. The outbuildings and adjoining crib were saved, however.
