A YEAR OF U.N.O.
DISAPPOINTING PROGRESS
COMMISSIONS GIVE CAUSE FOR HOPE
LONDON, March 2,
The Prime Minister, Mr C. R. Attlee, speaking to the United Nations Association at London, said: “During the last war we all experienced disappointment with the United Nations. We hoped for greater progress and unity in the General Assembly and the Security Council. 1 share the disappointment, but other United Nations activities give cause for hope.” Mr Attlee referred to U.N.E.5.C.0., the Human Rights Commission, and the Food and Agricultural Organisation. He hoped that every citizen would realise that the letters F.A.O. were as important as L.C.C. (the London County Council). The Prime Minister said there was a danger of devoting too much time and thought to political organisation of the world instead of seeing what was actually. being done in bringing the nations together. He believed a free association of equal nations was better than elaborate constitutions, as in the. case of the British Commonwealth.
