SERIOUS FUEL SHORTAGE IN HAMBURG
flßec. 11.5 a.m.) BERLIN, March 3. General Clay’s monthly report says the unprecedented winter cold in February continued to paralyse industry in the American zone. Three-quarters of all electrical equipment plant closed, most textile mills shut, and paper and pulp production virtually ceased. Tax collection droped by P 1.700.000. There was only a fortnight’s absenteeism hmong railwav crews. The shortage of locomotives necessitated continuation of the embargo oh rail traffic. The British Military Government announced the almost total cessation of public utilities in Hamburg through fuel shortage. Only 500 tons of coal a day will be allotted to maintain the waterworks, sewage, floor mills, bakeries, and pprba'w telephone system.
