FIRM AGAINST OVERTIME

THE MENTAL HOSPITAL STAFFS FULL SUPPORT BY PUBLIC SERVICE (P.A.) WELLINGTON. March 3. " Reports coming in from mental hospitals in all parts of the country indicate that the staffs are firmly adhering to the action agreed upon, except for the female staff at Tokaanu,” said Mr M. J. Turnbull, secretary of the New Zealand Ppblic. Service Association, when asked to-night about the mental hospital staffs’ refusal to work overtime.

Mr Turnbull said that resolutions of support for. the action being taken by the mental hospitals’ staffs were also being received from sections and subsections of the association throughout New Zealand, and from meetings of members held in various departments. He said he had been advised that a list sponsored by private members of the association in the Land and Income Tax Department office at Wellington and pledging the signatories to make financial contributions to the mental hospital staffs if necessary had received excellent support. The Wellington section of the Public Service Association issued a statement to-night reaffirming support for the claims and expressing dissatisfaction with the commission’s withdrawal of recognition of the association.
