BRETTON WOODS
OPINION AGAINST RATIFICATION OTAGO TRADES COUNCIL At a special meeting of the Otago Trades Council, held for the purpose of discussing the 'Bretton "Woods proposals, a' full analysis was submitted to the delegates for their. consideration, and after an exhaustive inquiry into the submissions of the Otago Engineers’ Union and the secretary of the council, the following motion was carried unanimously:— “ That the Otago Trades Council is of the opinion that it would be a tragedy of the greatest magnitude if the Government of the Dominion ratified the International Monetary , Organisation as established by the* Bretton Woods Financial Agreement. The agreement offers no solution of world problems, tut quite insidiously sets up controls which will reduce the smaller nations to vassal States and will make every Government the mouthpiece and tool of international finance. World collaboration with anti-social private .financial interests can only mean mass unemployment, slavery, misery', and degradation.”
