YACHTING CONTEST OPENS (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 15. Fine seamanship on the last beat tn windward to the finishing line gave Kiwi (Auckland), sailed by D. Jackson, a good win in the first race sailed on the estuai’y this morning for the Tanner Cup. The defender of the cup, Graham Mander, in’ Pip, was second after leading most of the way, and M.C. (Nelson) was third. The race was sailed over a windward and leeward course in a freshening south-west breeze.
