SUPPORT FOR WATERSIDERS*
The freezing workers at Ngahauranga are “ prepared to stand by the Waterside Workers’ Union, recognising their claims as i just aiid reasonable,” according to a resolution passed bv the men after they had been addressed In; Mr T. Hill, national secretary of the watersiders, and Mr E. A. Napier, Wellington secretary, at. a stopwork meeting at the works on Monday. Federation, of Labour officials were also invited to attend the meeting, but did not do so. ■Some division of trade union sympathy is becoming apparent in Auckland. The watersiders secured the support of the Auckland Glassworkers’ Union yesterday, but more definite indications of the hajance of opinion on the crisis should become clear after, several unions which have called meetings for this
week determine their, attitude. If the dispute ends in a deadlock the Glasswoiikers’ Union will give wholehearted support to the Waterside Workers’ Union. This decision was made at the fortnightly stop-work meeting of 250 members at Penrose. Press Association.
