DUNEDIN SUPREME GOURT YEARLY FIGURES FOLLOW GENERAL TREND The number of divorce proceedings handled by the Supreme Court in Dunedin during 1946 was larger than in the preceding year." This follows a tendency which appears to be general throughout New Zealand, but it is offset in a large measure by the record number of marriages performed last year. The following statistics were supplied to-day, the bracketed figures being the 1945 totals : Petitions for divorce: 111 (107). Petitions for restitution of conjugal rights:.3o (19). Petitions Tried by judge only: 146 (89). - Petitions tried by jury: 1 (1). Decrees absolute granted: 101 (Ss). Decrees for restitution of .conjugal rights : 23 (19). OTHER RETURNS. The following statistics regarding proceedings other than divorce at the Supreme Court were also supplied:— Civil.—Motions for probate filed, 784. (787) ; debtors’ and creditors’ petitions in bankruptcy filed. 1 (2); chattels securities filed, 1,135 (758); chattels satisfactions filed, 298 (202). Criminal. —Persons convicted, 11 (4); persons acquitted, 7 (5); persons sentenced, 31 (28).
