FATAL MISHAP

WOMAN SHOT IN HEAD (P.A.) INVERCARGILL January 6. When inspecting her husband’s rifle on Sunday night, Mrs Emma May Allott. aged 37, of Invercargill, was shot through the head and died on the way to hospital. Her husband, Lawrence Heatheoat Allott, had been out shooting ’ with friends on Saturday. Unaware that his rifle was loaded, he placed it muzzle upwards against a chesterfield on which bis wife; was lying while lie went for cleaning equipment. He heard a report, ami on returning found his wife with a bullet wound in the head. It is believed that Airs Allott took the rifle by the muzzle and dragged it towards lie’r, that the trigger caught on the end of the chesterfield, and the rifle was dischargd.
