ON SHORT RUNWAYS

ROCKET KICK-OFF FOR LINERS (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent.) (Rec. 10.15 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 6. The use of rocket power is : being considered to get fully-loaded British air liners into the air at some South African air ports, says the ‘ Sunday Times’s ’ air correspondent. This arises from the fact that the .Tpdor-11., intended for service between London and Johannesburg,, cannot be used at full load with the existing runways, which on some airfields cannot be lengthened. A rodket take-off was often used on aircraft carriers during the war.
