FORBURY PARK CLUB
STAKES INCREASED At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club last night it was decided to increase the stakes for the club’s cup meeting in January, 1947, to £IO,OOO, which represents an increase of £3,150 over the amount given last January. The president, Mr B. S. Irwin, who was in the chair, reported that the club’s spring meeting had been a pronounced success. The report on the meeting was adopted without discussion. A lengthy report was received from the gates inspector suggesting the installation of a turnstile at the Richardson street entrance to relieve congestion at this gate on race days.— Referred to the Works Committee. The report also recommended that the admission of servicemen in uniform free of charge should be looked into. At the last meeting 100 servicemen were admitted, and gatekeepers were of the opinion that home servicemen were donning a uniform for the day. and that it was becoming a “racket.” On the motion of Mr D. C. Jolly, it was decided that at future meetings only undischarged servicemen in uniform be admitted free, ,and that they should obtain passes from the secretary.
The New Zealand Trotting Association wrote stating that Mr A. iR. Neilson would in future frame the club’s handicaps. The following donations were made: —To St. John Ambulance Association, £5 56; and £2 2s each to the Otago Peninsula A. and P. Society and North-east Harbour Boating Club. J. McLennan, jun., was recommended for a trainer’s license. Five new members were elected.
