FRIENDLY COMPETITION
RUSSIA AND UNITED STATES MR HENRY WALLACE’S DESIRE NEW YORK, November 4. Mr Henry Wallace, in a speech at an election rally, said be would not withdraw a single sentence of the. speech which led to his dismissal as Secretary of Commerce. He urged New Yorkers to vote the Democratic ticket, in spite of what happened to him. . “ Thousands of New Yorkers might not vote to-morrow because of what happened to me,” he said. “ They will say to themselves, ‘ I like Wallace and they fired him.’ But if you really like me go out and vote, and get others to vote, the straight Democratic or 1 straight' American Labour Party ticket.” Mr Wallace added: “ Russia and the United States are working . for the Common man in different ways. The growth of influence of Russia and the' United States depends on which country produces most and gives most employment. I want to see the Russians produce and give us a good race. I am this kind of Communist : I want to see Russia get our technological skill. I want to see the Soviet got a loan without any strings tied to ' ft. We can have; friendly competition between Russian and United States systems, which are both anti-imperi-alistic. I think it is a mistake to arm bases near Russian ports.” ■ .
