BETTER PEACE TERMS
ITALY'S DEMAND TO BIG FOUR NEW. YORK, November 4. Italy has sent a Note to the Big * Four Foreign Ministers demanding better peaoe terms, including a plebiscite, in the areas claimed by Yugoslavia. The Note made the following : ‘ points:— First, the treaty being written was not' in keeping with the Atlantic Charter.' Secondly, the treaty does not recognise the long fight against Fascism by the Italians themselves, nor the big part Italy played in the war after Mussolini’s collapse. Thirdly, the solution proposed jarthe Italia n-Yugoslav frontier is based on strategic and political considerations, in open contrast with the political aspirations of the people concerned. Fourthly, the boundary solution offers no guarantee for the protection of minorities. ' Fifthly, the Trieste international area should include the unquestionably Italian zone of Pasenza and Pola. Sixthly, the demand, that Italy renounce all colonial territory fails to re-cognise-Italy’s work in developing the colonies. Seventhly, the military clauses of the treaty leave Italy undefended and in a state of subjection, jeopardising its very independence.
