FIVE THOUSAND KILLED

(Rec. 11 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 4. The Under-Secretary for India, Mr Arthur Henderson, stated in the House of Commons that, excluding the recent East Bengal disturbances, 5,018 had been killed and 13,320 injured in communal riots in India between the beginning of July and the end of October. Most of these casualties occurred in rioting in Calcutta in August. Deaths in Bihar since October 30 are assessed at 279.
