INDIAN DISTURBANCES
CONSIDERABLE EXAGGERATION
VICEROY CONDUCTS INQUIRY
CALCUTTA, November 3. ' The Viceroy, Viscount Wavell, carried out an aerial tour of the riot, areas of Eastern Bengal and interviewed many Hindu and Moslem leaders in connection with the disturbances. The ‘ Daily Telegraph’s ’ correspondent says Lord Wavell’s visit established that there had been gross exaggeration in the number of deaths during the disturba’nces and on the present state in Eastern Bengal recently. A message from Patna says that when Pandit Nehru and three Cabinet colleagues visited camps where 12,000 Moslems • were accommodated there were cfies of “Why do you come here? Why 1 don’t you go into the villages and see what is happening there?”'
The United Provinces Government at Lucknow has ordered the closing of the Lucknow University after the ar-. rest during the week-end of more thnn r 300 students picketing cinemas demanding the restoration of the prewar concession rates on admission.
