MEDITERRANEAN NO LONGER SECURE (Rec. 11 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, October 20. Durban would have to play a big part in any future war, said Admiral of the Fleet Lord Tovey, who is leaving South Africa for
New Zealand. He added that Britain could no longer depend on the Mediterranean for through traffic. With the advent of the atomic bomb and other bombs which might be even more powerful, it would be exceedingly foolish to count on this. He regretted that South Africa had reduced t its naval forces.
