RELIEF FOR COUNTRY ESSENTIAL
UNRRA LEADER’S APPEAL (Rec. 12.45 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 20. General Drury, chief of the Unrra Mission in Warsaw, appealed for the continuance of relief to Poland to replace Unrra aid, which will be ceasing shortly, says the Warsaw correspondent of -‘The Times.’ General Drury said that until the harvest of 1947 Poland would be short of 1,000,000 tons of bread and grain, over 70,000 tons of edible fats, 65,000 tons of meat, and 170.000 tons of milk. Lack of seeds and fertilisers, and the constant movement of the population were the main difficulties in the way of harvest. More than 3,000 casualties have been reported among Polish farmers working in fields still sown with German mines.
