BURNS PIPE BAND
ANNUAL REUNION The annual reunion of the Burns Pipe Band was held on Saturday night, the president, Mr David Maider. extending a welcome to the representatives of other pipe bands from as far afield as Christchurch and Invercargill He expressed the pride felt in the Burns Pipe Band’s success at the New Zealand championships and the Timaru contests.: The city had. ho felt, a great asset in the young band, which was at present training hard for the contest at Wanganui. The evening was spent in traditional Scottish style, items being given by A. Dodds. C. McMillan, R. Irma. and J. Paterson inipe quartet), R. McKenzie and W. Milne (pipe solos), R. McDougall, J. Gordon, W. Connack,
and C; Turner (songs), W. Brown (elocution), and Alf. Pettitt (piano solos). An interesting talk dealing with experiences in London during the war years was given' by' Mr Harry Turner. Framed photographs of the full b.sv> were preesnted to the Timaru Highland Pipe Band '(Mr Best) and the Blair Athol marching team (Mr H. Cameron). Mr Cameron presented Mr Maider with a solid-leather suit case in appreciation ..of the president’s services to the marching team . and the bands over the carnival perioud. A unique type of drum-major’s staff, which had been made by the president, was presented to the band through Pipe-major McKillop by Mr Wheeler. At the close of the evening, with a pipe duo playing ‘ Happy We Have All Been Together;’ the secretary of the band, Mr J. Brown, presented a frajned copy of the well-known picture, ‘The Gathering of the Clans,’ to Mr Maider.
