COAL MINING MACHINE

A NEW BRITISH INVENTION (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent.) LONDON, October 18. During his speech on the coal situation in the House of Commons, Mr Shinwell referred to a new cutting and loading machine which is expected to do a great deal to increase the output from British coal mines. The machine, which is a British invention, consists of a chain belt of picks which break down the coal face, and a conveyor, belt which picks up and loads the broken coal. In mines where this equipment is already operating the output has been more than doubled.
