ROAD SERVICES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Wishing to journey to Central Otago on October 26, Labour week-end, I applied on October 14 for a seat on the service bus, and was informed that the bus was booked out the previous week, and that no additional services would be put on this run. One week — I understand—is allowed for bookings on the railways, but evidently this does not apply to road services. As no tram is running on the Saturday, I fail to see how this is catering for the public. —I am, etc., Disappointed. October 16. ’ [Bookings for the Labour Day weekend bus services were opened on Friday,- October 11. An advertisement to this effect was published the previous Tuesday. The Railway. Department advises us that, owing to a shortage of vehicles, no extra buses can be allocated to this route.—Ed., E.S.]
