OBITUARY

MR W. WADDELL \ (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. The death has occurred of Mr William Waddell, aged 781 Born in Southland, Mr Waddell was a son of the first magistrate at Bluff, Mr James Waddell. He was educated at the Southland Boys’ High School, and fol- v lowed mercantile pursuits until 1895, when he joined the State Advances Department on its inauguration. In 1922 he became superintendent of the department, retaining that position until his retirement in 1931. Mr Waddell was a member of the Public Trust Investment Board, the State Fire Insurance Board, the Dominion Land Purchase Board, the Public Service Superannuation Board, the Rural Intermediate Credits Board, and the Government Insurance Board.
